On March 28,
2000, Governor Bill Graves established the Kansas Lewis & Clark Bicentennial
Commission. He appointed 11 volunteer members to this organization and designated
Karen Seaberg, Atchison, as chairman. The governor charged us to "review
the travels of the Lewis and Clark expedition through Kansas and the role
the expedition played in expanding the nation, and make recommendations
on ways the State can pay tribute to Lewis and Clark and participate in
the national Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Commemoration."
