Lewis and Clark Commemorative Marker
This marker is located next to the Missouri River, under the Centennial Bridge, by the entrance to the Riverfront Park. The park is a campsite with 14 RV hook up sites, call 913-682-6398 for campsite information. Directions: From K-7/73 (4th Street), go east three blocks on Dakota Street to 2nd Street, then one block North in Leavenworth, Kansas. Historical Wayside Marker
Fort Leavenworth has a 17-site historical Wayside Tour. These are limestone pedestals containing artwork and electronic recordings. One marker overlooks the Missouri River and is dedicated to the Lewis and Clark Expedition through this area. NOTE: You MUST have a picture ID upon entering the Fort. Buffalo Soldier Monument Frontier Army Museum
This museum tells the story of Fort Leavenworth, 1827-present and the history of the United States Regular Army on the frontier from 1804, the arrival of Lewis and Clark, army history through 1917, to the conclusion of the Punitive expedition into Mexico. Lewis and Clark-related displays are featured. Directions: Enter the Fort on Grant Ave. NOTE: You MUST have a picture ID upon entering the Fort. Proceed north on Grant Ave. to Reynolds Ave., turn right and proceed one block, the museum is located on the left.
